Featured Artist of the Week: Eliy Orcko

 

                

                  

                   

    Yayy new week new artist! This week I was able to have a conversation with lo-fi rapper Eliy Orcko on my series Pink Mic Talk. We discussed Eliy's unique beginnings, his evolution as an artist, and how he's been able to manage himself as he has continued to grow.

    Eliy is originally from both Sandy Springs, Florida, and Cleveland, Ohio. Eliy's introduction to music is a story within itself as he was introduced through not the best of circumstances. As we flashback to Eliy's humble beggings around 12-13 years old he was jumped; however, the guy that helped save him began to walk him home. Here Eliy was introduced to the world of music through his punk band where they began to teach him the bass. This would then go onto vocals and Eliy being a regular helping hand for the band throughout shows. In this way, Eliy then began to attach to groups in the metal scene and eventually became a part of a three-piece group in which he started rapping. Soon enough, they all branched out and began to all do their own things in the music-sphere. Eliy then found himself aligning with the world of lo-fi rap which is where he's been able to find a sense of community with creatives alike. These same sounds are what has carried him to new places where people get to see a new face to lo-fi rap. As we discussed in our interview Eliy states that most lo-fi rappers are, "emotionally sad kids that are melanin challenged," which is the exact opposite of Eliy as he says his friends describe him as a, "walking GTA character." 

    With this sense of community; yet, still remaining a sense of individuality, Eliy has built a community for himself over the internet. He has gone on to meet individuals from all across both the country and the world. Eliy continues to create chill-jazzy tracks to uplift both others and himself as it is something that comes naturally to him.
