Featured Artist of the Week: Zuriel Trees

Our very first fully musical artist...Zuriel Trees! Zuriel is one of THE most slept-on artists I have ever met. We were able to speak this week on a new episode of Pink Mic Talk about how he was introduced to the music world, healing trauma through creating, and how love influences him. Mind you, I know Zuriel outside of just being my interviewee, so forewarning the interview this week is a little silly, but in a great way. I wanted to keep it that way to show genuine emotion and just share a nice conversation I had with my friend.

Zuriel Trees originally born Daniel Sigler is from Chicago, Illinois. His artist name is adapted from his middle name combined with his love for trees he developed in his childhood. Similar to the artist last week, I actually only recently met Zuriel through Instagram and had no idea we were from the same city. Zuriel had a unique upbringing with his family and often faced ups and downs throughout his childhood and teen years. Having a rocky relationship with both his mother and father, he found himself having a lot of pent-up pain within himself. Yet, throughout his high school career, Zuriel stuck to poetry as his main mode of expressing himself, but the music was still all around him. This was through his uncle and family he would see creating music; however, he was hesitant to do it himself because he had no idea what he would sound like. Yet, three years ago Zuriel got the chance to record as one of his friends, producer MarsKalopsia, began to make beats. This inspired Zuriel to take that step to actually create his own music. However, he found himself in a dilemma, as Chicago has a very specific sound for rappers that he did not find himself falling under, as engineers would manipulate his recordings to mimic this specific sound. Therefore, he went on to learn how to record himself to make the unique Zuriel Trees sound.

In creating music, we primarily spoke on Zuriel's last album 7 stages. To be very honest it is a SHAME that more people don't know about it. It is a very beautiful body of work that details Zuriel's last relationship and the process (the stages) of breaking up with that person. I have had it on repeat since he introduced it to me; however, that goes with a lot of Zuriel's music. He has a really effortless flow and always carries a song well through both storytelling and pouring out his emotion into his tracks. Some of my favorites of the last album were "I can't be with you!", she exclaimed, Make Up Sex At An Airbnb, Dnt Knw Luv, and Mixed Signals. But I would of course advise that you listen to the whole thing to get the full experience. I asked Zuriel how love inspires him to create and he expressed that, "It is the sole reason." With this, you can feel that there is a lot of passion not only throughout these tracks but all of Zuriel's music.

As a person, Zuriel has put all of his creativity into his music thus far. However, he has a unique style in fashion that he would like to evolve. In addition to this, I was able to get Zuriel to share a painting he did in our interview (thank you Daniel :). Where he shared that he has an appreciation for art and wants to be able to explore all forms of it and not be confined to the "rapper label." With this healing and growing he is now doing by himself, Zuriel is working on a new album to echo this new unfamiliar stage in his life. So be sure to stay updated on Zuriel through his Instagram and following him on all music platforms as he is on Apple Music, Spotify, and SoundCloud to not only be prepared for his new music but to appreciate all the masterpieces he has already put out:)
